Jonathan Threatens To Send Military To Bornu State

President Goodluck Jonathan in his media chat held on Monday 24th February, 2014, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, lashed out at the Bornu state Governor, Kashim Shettima, whose State have been under series of attacks by the Boko Haram group resulting in the loss of hundreds of lives and properties worth millions.

During the chat, Mr President reacted to the recent Boko Haram attacks and the Governor’s remarks that the military appeared incapable of reining in the insurgents, saying that the Borno State Chief Executive was wrong.

“If the Governor of Borno State thinks that the Nigerian forces are not doing anything, he should tell Nigerians and I will pull out all the military personnel there for only one month. Let’s see whether he will stay in that government house,” the President said.

The President also said that if the situation in Bornu state remain constant for the next one month, he will recall the troops to the state. ‘If after one month, the insurgency continues, I will send the troops back to take over the state,’ he noted.

Meanwhile, Jonathan denied planning to replace Governor Shettima with a Military Administrator in further implementation of State of Emergency, but warned state Governors to be mindful of their choice of words on issues of National importance.
