Check Your Health: Lagos Screens Citizens For Cancer, Diabetes, Hypertension
The exercise which kicked off today, will run through Monday, November 25 to Friday, November 29, in all local government and Local Council Development areas of the state.
The wellness health week which is being organized to tackle the spectre of inadequate knowledge and awareness of the symptoms, signs and effects of untreated hypertension, diabetes, cancer of the breast, cervix and prostate, among other NCDs, is designed to create awareness about their early detection.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr. Yewande Adeshina, who disclosed this weekend, noted that Lagos, being the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria, had peculiar environmental and other risk factors that predisposed residents to NCDs.
She explained that the exercise tagged "First Statewide Wellness Health Week Awareness and Screening Programme," became necessary in view of the danger to health and economic loss such disorders pose to society.
