Pa Kasunmu: Controversies Trail Fashola’s Rumoured Intervention

It is no news that ailing veteran actor, Kayode Dosunmu, widely known as Pa Kasunmu is in need of financial help to enable him undergo medical treatment abroad for his liver and kidney related diseases. It is also not news that the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), reportedly promised to foot the total medical bill some days ago, which was widely applauded by many Nigerians.

But information reaching First Weekly indicated that it is not ‘uhuru’ for the actor, who we learnt is gradually losing his vision due to the sickness.

According to an insider on the matter, the Lagos State Governor is yet to fulfill his rumoured promise of taking over the full medical payments of the actor. What is now being reported in the media is that the Lagos and Ogun State governments donated a sum of N3.5 million (three million five hundred thousand naira) to Pa Kasunmu as their own contribution to the treatment of the veteran actor abroad.

Our source informed us that though Fashola contacted the actor’s family on the issue, he also allegedly agreed to pay the 12 million bill needed for the operation, but that the process of getting the money out for approval is said to be proving cumbersome for the family.

The source, who begged not to be named, further disclosed that the family of Pa Kasunmu has written to the Governor and that they are awaiting the approval and release of the money by Governor Fashola. When asked if the letter was written through any Commissioner in the state or written to Governor Fashola directly, the source said that it was written directly to the governor.

The source further told First Weekly that the family is now seeking an alternative to raising the needed funds for the actor’s treatment since the governor’s ‘largesse’ is taking too long to get to them.
